Youth Development Professional: ROOTS Austin

The Youth Development Professionals role is providing daily programs, services and activities for Program Site participants, which are consistent with the organization’s youth development mission and goals. Youth development Professionals are primarily, but not exclusively, responsible for youth supervision, developing positive, productive relationships with students and overseeing the delivery of a broad range of programs such as Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, Sports-Fitness & Recreation and Healthy Lifestyles. 

This person will work closely with the Site Coordinator to plan & implement designated programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes for youth.  The person will maintain program goals that ensure the health and safety of participants.  The Youth Development Professional reports to the Site Coordinator.

Desired Documented Work Experience in:

  • Youth Development
  • Communicating with parents, students, employees and others;
  • Telephone etiquette;
  • Related study or work experience field;
  • Class-room management;
  • Basic Computers;
  • Working with little supervision.

Qualifications: 

  • Some College or currently enrolled in a related field of study preferred;

Transportation Services:  Bus Driver (Texas Preparatory School – Austin)

The Transportation Services Bus Driver; provides safe and efficient transportation services to Texas Preparatory School students and ROOTS Austin program members. A successful applicant will have a high school diploma or equivalent, current CDL license with passenger endorsement, clean driving record, and experience operating a school bus. This position works 25-30 hours per week with occasional field trips, evenings and weekends as needed. This person obeys all State and Federal Traffic regulations and laws, uses effective defensive driving techniques, attends and completes all required training to obtain & maintain safety and driver certification.

The Business Office Support Clerk supports, maintains, and facilitates the daily work in the area of the Business Operations for the administrative team. The BOSC maintains office organization for the support of the administrative staff. The BOSC identifies and helps to increase the office efficiency. The BOSC facilitates with internal areas and external agencies to ensure that deadlines area met.

Skills and Abilities  
• Office organization skills are a must;
• Office written and verbal communications skills;
• Computer skills are a must, with experience in Microsoft Word, Google suite, and other online data systems;

Part-time Custodial Substitute

This position requires the maintaining of an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for students, staff and public; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and facility structure.

Position requires ability to perform multiple, not-technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in industrial maintenance including electrical cleaning equipment, common tools, landscaping equipment, etc.; and adhering to safety practices.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or its equivalent;
• At least one year of experience in custodian field;
• Must be able to pass a background check and satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check prior to starting employment;

Work Schedule: This position will serve as a substitute for staff that work the following shifts, 7:30 am – 4:30 pm, 4:30 – 8:30 pm, 6 – 10 pm Monday through Friday and occasional weekends.

Working Conditions:
Work inside and outside; prolonged standing and walking; lifting and carrying; some organization local travel as assigned. Lift/move approximately 30 – 50 pounds. Other physical activities may be required.

Food Service Assistant

The Food Service Assistant will assist the Food Service Coordinator to provide excellent service to students.  He or she is responsible for all documentation around compliance ensuring our schools meals are reimbursable according to the Texas Department of Agriculture standards.  The Food Service Coordinator ensures that food safety procedures are always followed and will serve as the primary Point of Service (POS) operator. He or she encourages and engages students to participate daily in the child nutrition program.  This position serves the Child Nutrition Program during the school year (school calendar) and serves as a substitute during the summer for the Food Service Coordinator during the summer food program. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Provide a clean service area for food safety and excellent service to students.
  2. Help receive daily meal deliveries from our food service provider. 
  3. Set up cafeteria for breakfast service. 
  4. Breakfast Service: greet every student, ensure each has all components for breakfast, must walk around to help monitor students and help to control behavior, clean up tables, and sweep floors between services.
  5. Close Breakfast: clean service areas; reconcile POS, and count and complete paperwork.
  6. Lunch Service: greet every student, ensure each has all components for lunch and must walk around to help monitor students and help to control behavior, clean up tables, and sweep floors between services.
  7. Close Lunch Service: clean service areas, reconcile POS and counts, complete and file paperwork.

Site Coordinator (San Marcos Extension)

The Site Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the delivery of a broad range of programs within BGCSCT Program Sites, such as Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, Sports-Fitness & Recreation and Healthy Lifestyles.  This person will work closely with the Programs Director to plan & oversee the administration of designated programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes. 

The Site Coordinator will maintain Club program goals that ensure the health and safety of members while overseeing proper record keeping/reporting for activities/events conducted and participation & attendance data.  The Site Coordinator will work closely with the Programs Director to establish and maintain relationships with potential partnering organizations, local ISD’s and businesses.  The Site Coordinator also ensures productive and effective performance by all program staff, volunteers and mentors.

The Site Coordinator reports to the Programs Director and will serve as a substitute instructor as needed for the Texas Preparatory School. 

Desired Documented Work Experience in:

Communicating with parents, students, employees and others;

Telephone etiquette;

Communicating with potential partnering organizations, local schools and businesses;

Managing staff & event coordination;

Related study or work experience field;

Operating office machines and personal computers;

Working with little supervision;

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred or 5 or more years of Youth Development and Education experience

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, (2) Saturday’s per month & occasional evenings.
