About THE Boys and Girls club

On March 16, 1994, the Willie Mae Mitchell Community Opportunity Center was established as a community-based youth organization. On Nov. 21, 2001, the organization was accepted into the membership of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and was renamed the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Texas (BGCSCT).

Since its inception, the BGCSCT has proudly served the youth of Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Hays counties. BGCSCT provides children with a safe place to learn and grow, provide ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals, offer life-enhancing programs and character development experiences, and hope and opportunity for all members.

BGCSCT is a public, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization located in San Marcos, Texas. One of the BGCSCT’s most unique features is that it is one of only two Clubs in the United States that operate a charter school.  BGCSCT is fortunate to have two charter schools, Texas Preparatory School – San Marcos and Texas Preparatory School – Austin, which implements BGC programs and operates according to the BGCSCT mission.  While TPS – San Marcos solely operates as a traditional BGC after school program, the Austin campus, Texas Preparatory School – Austin’s after school program is the East Austin Music Academy.

Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
